Realism
An art movement that aims to represent subjects as they appear in everyday life, without embellishment or interpretation.
Impressionism
A 19th-century art movement focused on capturing light and colour in the moment, using visible brushstrokes and pure colours.
Sculpture
Three-dimensional art created by carving, modelling, casting, or assembling materials like stone, metal, clay, or wood.
Gallery
A room or building for displaying works of art. Also refers to a business that sells artworks to collectors.
Fresco
A technique of painting on wet plaster so the colours become part of the wall itself. Used by Michelangelo on the Sistine Chapel ceiling.
